What is your occupation? Software Development
How many years experience in your field? 16+
What is the highest degree or level of school you have completed? Bachelor’s degree (for example: BA. BS)
Please describe your experience in the Crypto/Blockchain space, if any? Investor and developer.
Are you an individual or a group? Individual
Node City Amsterdam
Node State North Holland
Node Country Netherlands
For which networks Have you ever operated a node? Bitcoin (BTC, BCH, etc), Ethereum (ETH, ETC, etc), Aura, Origin Trail
What kind of improvements would you like to see in Elixxir nodes vs. previous the previous nodes you have supported? At the moment the Aura node from IDEX is the best example I have run, given the documentation and ease of running, upgrading and maintaining. While I find this stuff easy and am fine on the command line, compiling etc, but a lot of non-tech people are running the IDEX node without much difficulty.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an Elixxir node? Entry price (I'm not aware of the cost right now.)
What is a reasonable maximum connection speed on which you could operate a BetaNet node in your geographic region? (Where 0 = 10 Megabits/second, and 100 = 10 Gigabits/second) 50
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? (As a percentage) 98
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. . €0.18 per kWh
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator? (Where 0 = 1 hour/month, and 100 = 20 hours/month) 10
If you were selected to run a BetaNet node, would it run on your own hardware or be deployed to cloud-based servers? Cloud-Based Servers
In what type of environment would this server be located?
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter?
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published Elixxir BetaNet node specifications?
Yes (Please list specs)
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below:
Do you have past experience deploying servers to cloud-based services? Yes (please specify)
Yes (please specify) Our company runs cloud based server for clients across all spectrums, intranets, extranets, large scale corporate CRMs etc. Personally I run a few nodes on cloud servers.
Why do you want to be a node? The project is of interest to me.
How did you originally hear about Elixxir? I can't recall, but I knew who Mr. Chaum was and hearing some talks on the project from him sparked my interest.
Which current Elixxir communities are you a member of? Telegram
Are you an active member of those communities? No
What specifically, interests you about the Elixxir platform? Personally the thing I like about Elixxir isn't something specific, its that it combines all that we need into one package wrt speed and privacy. Also, the consensus mechanism is very cool, I guess if I had to choose one thing it would be the consensus mech :)
Outside of Elixxir communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? Aura/Idex (AuroraDao), REN protocol, Enigma MPC.
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? Yes, but local ones here in Spain. Small developer conferences, hackathon style stuff.
As part of growing the Elixxir community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an Elixxir BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. Yes (how much content on a monthly basis?)
If yes, how much content on a monthly basis? I could be interested in a monthly review detailing on-going node operational processes and developments in the community and platform. I do this now for several of the nodes I run, however not publicly, but within the community I outlined above.
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? Great question... Briefly, a distributed network will primarily share the processing load but doesn't necessarily have a decentralized consensus on the state of the network, whereas a decentralized network can share the processing and it also works to secure the state and functionality of the network by hosting these aspects across the set of nodes rather than in a centralized manner. I'm sure I will find a better way to explain that in about 15 minutes after sending this!
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the Elixxir platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. I think the tagline says it well, "Scalable Digital Sovereignty", as it is a succinct and efficient manner of saying that the project provides privacy at the transaction and identity level, all while being able to do so rapidly. As a programmer and developer, the team consensus model for the nodes is also something that differs to some degree* from other systems, and I think it is important. * there are other systems where you can use a subset of online nodes for consensus like SCP, proposed by David Mazières, but that is not the same...
Privacy by Default is a goal of the Elixxir Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? If you think about it, fiat currency (referring to paper money and coins here) was in large part "Privacy by Default", only recently moving to us losing our privacy with credit cards, debit cards and online payment facilities. "Privacy by default on the internet" should be a reflection of the system we used to have, in my opinion, where the fungibility of an asset, meaning that one of the asset is indistinguishable from another, also exists in terms of the entities exchanging these assets, meaning that entities are essentially indistinguishable from one another. Beyond this, I think there is enough historical evidence of the misuse of data for diabolical means such that the privacy of our transactions should be a right. Add to this the myriad of hacks and data breaches seen thru the years, "Privacy by Default" in a very easy to use UI will not only give people the choice, but for the uninformed user they will be protected by default. That seems pretty critical to my eyes.
