For which networks Have you ever operated a node? Bitcoin (BTC, BCH, etc), Ethereum (ETH, ETC, etc)
What kind of improvements would you like to see in Elixxir nodes vs. previous the previous nodes you have supported? I am happy with the nodes I ran so far (eth and btc). Main requirement to me is to have as many nodes as possible, ran by a heterogeneous set of people.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an Elixxir node? None.
What is a reasonable maximum connection speed on which you could operate a BetaNet node in your geographic region? (Where 0 = 10 Megabits/second, and 100 = 10 Gigabits/second) 50
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? (As a percentage) 98
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. . $90 according to an online calculator
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator? (Where 0 = 1 hour/month, and 100 = 20 hours/month) 68
If you were selected to run a BetaNet node, would it run on your own hardware or be deployed to cloud-based servers? Both
In what type of environment would this server be located? University / Academic Institution
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? No
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published Elixxir BetaNet node specifications? Yes (Please list specs)
Yes (Please list specs) I can propose an ACER PREDATOR ORION 9000 (CPU: Intel i9-9980XE Extreme with 18 CORES, RAM: 32GB, GPU: 2 (!) NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2080 TI) or make a machine specifically for this purpose.
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below:
Do you have past experience deploying servers to cloud-based services? Yes (please specify)
Yes (please specify) Website/API servers.
Why do you want to be a node? Because I am interested in getting a practical understanding of the Elixxir technology as it develops. Because it contributes to a better system than the current one.
How did you originally hear about Elixxir? David Chaum alluded to his project at the Crypto 2018 event (IACR) and I since then awaited for a way to participate in it.
Which current Elixxir communities are you a member of? Telegram, Twitter
Are you an active member of those communities? Yes
What specifically, interests you about the Elixxir platform? > privacy > security > David Chaum's experience and vision
Outside of Elixxir communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? > I develop a lot with IOTA and ethereum
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? I was a speaker at: 1. Paris Blockchain Security Meetup - technical workshop (Paris) 2. Crypto Invest Conference - panel moderation (Paris) 3. Blockchain Visionnaire Summit - panel participant (Berlin) 4. ChainXchange Conference - presentation (Las Vegas) 5. Blockshow Americas Conference - presentation (Las Vegas) 6. Blockchain Technology Conference - technical workshop organisor (Berlin) 7. London Fintech Week - technical presentation (London) 8. Bitfinex hackathon - winning presentation (London) 9. Crypto Block Conference - featured presentation (London)
As part of growing the Elixxir community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an Elixxir BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. Yes (how much content on a monthly basis?)
If yes, how much content on a monthly basis? 1 medium article, 8 twitter posts
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? There are many way to understand these concepts. A distributed process means that the processing is shared across multiple nodes. Decentralized means that there is no single point where the decision is made. At least that's the understanding that is most widely spread online.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the Elixxir platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. To me, an essential innovation of Elixxir nodes is the mixing in connections that randomly occurs. This is the foundation for a privacy-protecting mix network with quantum-resistant security that can support messaging, payments, and decentralized application (dApp) data transfer.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the Elixxir Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? There is an imbalance today: On one hand are "data gatherers" (corporations, state agencies...). They are determined, organized and systematic in using data to, potentially, manipulate people. On the other hand are regular users, like me. They are sloppy about how they protect their privacy, amateurish and disorganized. I think this asymmetry will stay, but what can change is the technology stack: we need a technology stack that has privacy as the default. Otherwise, the second group will be completely subordinated to the first group and will lose the ability to determine its own life.
