What languages do you speak? English, Russian
What is your occupation? Software Development
How many years experience in your field? 16+
What is the highest degree or level of school you have completed? Master’s degree (for example: MA, MS, MEng, MEd, MSW, MBA)
Please describe your experience in the Crypto/Blockchain space, if any? I am the CEO and the head of technology at a [cryptocurrency exchange]. I have hands-on experience with installing and maintaining nodes and developing applications that connect to them via RPC calls.
Are you an individual or a group? Group
Node City We can run it at any location of Amazon AWS services in North America.
Node State
Node Country
For which networks Have you ever operated a node? EOS, Bitcoin (BTC, BCH, etc), Ethereum (ETH, ETC, etc), DASH
What kind of improvements would you like to see in Elixxir nodes vs. previous the previous nodes you have supported? We are very interested to see these improvements: - Transaction speed is number one. - Reduction in required resources, such as disk space and CPU. Ethereum is very resource consuming. - Privacy (of metadata). - Functionality. For example, a consensus on transaction ordering (important for financial applications). We are also interested in developing high-speed dapps and were looking into different blockchains for that purpose.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an Elixxir node? We are not aware of any.
What is a reasonable maximum connection speed on which you could operate a BetaNet node in your geographic region? (Where 0 = 10 Megabits/second, and 100 = 10 Gigabits/second) 100
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? (As a percentage) 99
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. . We will not pay for electricity directly, but the local cost is around $0.20 per kWh.
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator? (Where 0 = 1 hour/month, and 100 = 20 hours/month) 50
If you were selected to run a BetaNet node, would it run on your own hardware or be deployed to cloud-based servers? Cloud-Based Servers
In what type of environment would this server be located?
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter?
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published Elixxir BetaNet node specifications?
Yes (Please list specs)
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below:
Do you have past experience deploying servers to cloud-based services? Yes (please specify)
Yes (please specify) We have been working with AWS since 2016 and have experience hosting various nodes on there with Ethereum being the most challenging/expensive to run.
Why do you want to be a node? I personally think your project is what the blockchain community - probably the entire World, they just don't know it yet - needs at this time. Also, we have a commercial interest to be among the first exchanges to list your token.
How did you originally hear about Elixxir? Crypto Invest Summit presentation.
Which current Elixxir communities are you a member of? Telegram, Twitter
Are you an active member of those communities? No
What specifically, interests you about the Elixxir platform? We have been looking at different blockchains, including some that are currently coming out. So far, Elixxir appears to be best suited for what we are looking for. Our ultimate goal is to develop a decentralized exchange application, which would be as fast as a centralized exchange.
Outside of Elixxir communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? I actively participate in Bitior and xCoins communities, but they are more of a user support and announcement type of groups. I also like writing Medium articles in my free time about the future of blockchain technologies and their impact.
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? Yes, I attend many: BlockCon (twice) StartEngine ICO Summit The FinTech Week at Draper University Crypto Invest Summit (twice) Restart X Coindesk Consensus and many smaller meetups.
As part of growing the Elixxir community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an Elixxir BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. Yes (how much content on a monthly basis?)
If yes, how much content on a monthly basis? I would not be able to commit to creating content directly for Elixxir. However, we as a company, will definitely incorporate Elixxir in our social media posts, medium articles, and press releases.
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? In a distributed system, processing is performed by multiple nodes, but there is no node consensus for making decisions. In a decentralized network, each node makes its own decision. Then, they have to reach a consensus. The best architecture of the network depends on a particular application. Distributed is faster but is not usually "trustless."
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the Elixxir platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. The high number of transactions per second and the privacy of metadata is currently unique among all other blockchains that we know of. There are other advantages, such as block finality, which Bitcoin and the current version of Ethereum do not have for example.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the Elixxir Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? Privacy = freedom of information. I grew up in Russia, where the media is controlled by the government. A country without freedom of information is running a risk of turning into a dictatorship.
