Please describe your experience in the Crypto/Blockchain space, if any? Fascinated by decentralized peer to peer network technology such as Blockchain and their wide array of applications in society. An in depth analyst of the cryptocurrency asset class and an investor in this space since 2013.
Are you an individual or a group? Individual
Node City Katy
Node State TX
Node Country United States
For which networks Have you ever operated a node? None. This will be my first time
What kind of improvements would you like to see in Elixxir nodes vs. previous the previous nodes you have supported? Easy user friendly procedure to setup and run. A plug and play would be ideal. Intuitive user interface.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an Elixxir node? I don't have software development background, but I'm an engineer and can certainly learn easily if there is a procedure to follow and support.
What is a reasonable maximum connection speed on which you could operate a BetaNet node in your geographic region? (Where 0 = 10 Megabits/second, and 100 = 10 Gigabits/second) 36
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? (As a percentage) 100
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. . $110/per month
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator? (Where 0 = 1 hour/month, and 100 = 20 hours/month) 61
If you were selected to run a BetaNet node, would it run on your own hardware or be deployed to cloud-based servers? Both
In what type of environment would this server be located? Personal Home
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? No
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published Elixxir BetaNet node specifications? No
Yes (Please list specs)
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below: I plan to buy the appropriate hardware to run the beta node. I just need guidance regarding the machine specs I need to purchase.
Do you have past experience deploying servers to cloud-based services? No
Yes (please specify)
Why do you want to be a node? I really like the concept and philosophy behind this project. If the capabilities mentioned in the whitepaper and website are true, then this would be a great project to participate in and help push forward.
How did you originally hear about Elixxir? Coindesk
Which current Elixxir communities are you a member of? Telegram, Reddit, LinkedIn, Medium, Twitter
Are you an active member of those communities? Yes
What specifically, interests you about the Elixxir platform? Fascinated by decentralized peer to peer network technology such and their wide array of applications in society. If everything I read about Elixxir is true, then this will be a fascinating project to get involved with. Also, I'm a big fan of Ripple and Chris Larsen (Ripple's chairman). I heard he is an investor in Elixxir.
Outside of Elixxir communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? I'm involved in other crypto-currency communities, but not as a node operator or developer.
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? Yes. Consensus 2018 in New York City. May 14-16 2018.
As part of growing the Elixxir community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an Elixxir BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. Yes (how much content on a monthly basis?)
If yes, how much content on a monthly basis? 1-2 per month
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? A decentralized system is a subset of a distributed system. Distributed means that the processing is shared across multiple nodes, but the decisions may still be centralized and use complete system knowledge. Decentralized means that there is no single point where the decision is made. Every node makes a decision for it’s own behavior and the resulting system behavior is the aggregate response. I sit on the decentralization side, but without compromising security, scalability, efficiency, governance, and energy usage.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the Elixxir platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. Most if not all blockchains can offer decentralization, but in order to do so, they have to compromise on something (performance, effective governance, scalability, energy usage...etc.). Elixxir seems to be the only blockchain that produces the benefits of decentralization without compromising on essential aspects mentioned above.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the Elixxir Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? The more someone knows about us, the more power they can have over us. Personal data is used to make very important decisions in our lives. Personal data can be used to affect our reputations; and it can be used to influence our decisions and shape our behavior. Ownership of personal data belongs to the person, not to centralized servers.
